OUR PURPOSE

BAME WIS stands for black, Asian and minority ethnic women in science and we are an organisation that strives to support women and girls in Neuroscience. We believe in the importance of addressing and finding solutions to the unique challenges that are experienced by ethnic minority women around the world, to ensure they are able to become the innovators and leaders they are capable of becoming. With access to the right resources, we believe that women in Neuroscience will feel empowered by their own skills and gain the confidence to fulfil their potential.

“Don't let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It's your place in the world; it's your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.”

Mae Jemison, first African American woman astronaut in space

PROFESSOR SANDRINE THURET DR. RER. NAT. FHEA - PROJECT SPONSOR

The Black, Asian and ethnic minority women in science (BAME WIS) mentorship scheme was uniquely designed so that the mentor and mentee both benefited from the programme. It was clearly a success where we saw increase in confidence, leadership and communication skills both in mentees and mentors! This is a great outcome and I therefore congratulate Naomi for setting up such a successful programme.
